Woman stole puppy off lawn: troopers

OPPENHEIM – State police said troopers arrested a 21-year-old woman Wednesday for stealing a puppy from an acquaintance’s lawn.

Andrea M. Williams of 13 S. Main St., Dolgeville, was charged with petit larceny for stealing a 3-month-old black Chi puggle puppy, police said.

Williams and her male companion where driving down Route 29 Wednesday afternoon when they saw the puppy was tied to a leash and left unattended outside their acquaintance’s house, police said. They pulled into the driveway, and while her male companion talked with the owner about an unrelated matter inside the residence, Williams untied the puppy and ran back to the car.

When the owner eventually went outside to check on his puppy, it was gone, police said.

An investigation revealed Williams had expressed interest in this particular puppy in the past, even offering to buy it at one time, police said.

Williams initially denied any involvement in the theft, but later admitted to taking the puppy, police said.

Williams is scheduled to be arraigned in Town Court on Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.
