DeWayne J. ‘Joey’ Barker

DeWayne J. “Joey” Barker, 69, of New Turnpike Road, Fort Plain, NY, passed away peacefully Friday evening, August 29, 2014, at his home with his loving family at his bed side.

Born October 24, 1944, in Fonda, NY, he was the son of the late DeWayne and Avis Rhodes Barker. He was a graduate of the Fonda High School Class of 1962.

Joey owned and operated the Barker Farm in Fonda until 1984. He then started his own business cutting and delivering fire wood until he retired in 2011 due to ill health.

Joey was a family man who loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Besides his late parents, Joey was predeceased by his twin great-grandchildren, Dominic and Caleb Barry, who both passed away this year. He was also predeceased by his brother, Gary; and his sister, Janet.

Survivors include his wife, Constance Barker of Fonda; a longtime companion, Nancy Telfer of Fort Plain; a stepmother, Lucille Barker of Gloversville; two sons, Sean B. Barker of Fonda and Edward J. (Wendi) Barker of Fonda; a daughter, Audra E. (Charles) Kubly of Fonda; a sister, Judi Hale of Johnstown; four half brothers, Harry Barker of Fort Plain, John Barker of Northville, Michael Barker and Steve Barker, both of Gloversville; a half sister, Lois Bradt of Ephratah; seven grandchildren, Jacqueline, Morgan, Lauren, Natasha, Shane, Katie and Dean; one great-granddaughter, Blakelynne; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

It was DeWayne’s request that there be no calling hours and a private graveside service which will be held at the convenience of the family at the Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats, Fonda with the Rev. Heidi Chamberlain officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joey’s memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
