Broadalbin-Perth volleyball wins Tip-Off Tournament

BROADALBIN – The Broadalbin-Perth volleyball team got its season off to a strong start, defeating Johnstown to win the season-opening Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday at Broadalbin-Perth High School.

The Lady Patriots rolled through pool play with a 6-0 record and defeated Johnstown in three sets, 24-26, 25-9, 25-21, to win the title.

Broadalbin-Perth and Fonda-Fultonville advanced to the semi-finals out of Pool A. Mayfield and Fonda-Fultonville tied with 3-3 records and Fonda-Fultonville won a one-game playoff to advance to the semis.

In Pool B, Johnstown and Galway finished with identical 5-1 records, with Johnstown receiving the top seed on point differential.

In the semifinals, Broadalbin-Perth defeated Galway 25-15 and 25-16, while Johnstown defeated Fonda-Fultonville 25-13 and 25-14.

Broadalbin-Perth was led by Chelsea LeBlanc’s seven kills and three blocks, while Gabby Smith added 21 assists and four aces. Zoe Simonson had eight kills, three aces and 11 digs and Jordan Marshall contributed three kills, 10 digs and two blocks.

Gloversville and Fort Plain went 1-5 in Pool B competition, while Amsterdam was 0-6 in Pool A.
