School names interim head
CANAJOHARIE – The Canajoharie Central School District Board of Education has appointed an interim principal for Canajoharie Middle School.
The board Monday appointed Lori Orestano-James to serve for the 2014-15 school year. She replaces Douglas Morrissey, who resigned at the end of the 2013-14 school year, according to a news release.
Orestano-James’ nearly 30-year career in education began in the Monticello Central School District as a music teacher. In 1995, she was appointed an assistant principal at Monticello, where she served for nine years before taking the music director position in the Tri-Valley Central School District. She returned to Monticello in 2010, serving as the assistant principal and then principal at Monticello High School.
Orestano-James is a graduate of Ithaca College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music education.
She obtained a master’s degree in education and a certificate of advanced studies in educational administration from the State University of New York at New Palz and has completed coursework toward a doctorate in educational administration at Nova Southeastern University, the news release said.
