Man accused of sex acts with girl, 5

GLOVERSVILLE – State police on Wednesday arrested a city man on four felony charges for allegedly committing various sex acts with a 5-year-old girl, photographing the acts and uploading them to the Internet.

The state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Mayfield issued a news release indicating the arrest of Richard A. Dence Jr., 32, of 19 Fifth St.

BCI, in conjunction with the State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Unit and the Gloversville Police Department, charged Dence.

“Basically, it was done on a warrant,” Fulton County District Attorney Louise Sira said today.

Dence faces charges of: felony first-degree criminal sex act, felony use of a child in a sexual performance, felony promoting a sexual performance of a child, felony possession of a sexual performance by a child and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.

Sira was unsure how much state prison time Dence faces if convicted of the crimes.

The release said Dence allegedly committed various sex acts with a 5-year-old girl, photographing these acts and uploading them to the Internet for dissemination. The investigation was initiated after a tip was received through the Internet Crimes Against Children Tip line.

Subsequently, a search warrant was executed on his home and Dence was taken into custody without incident, troopers said.

“He did know the victim,” BCI Investigator Darryl Bazan said today.

Bazan said Dence has a criminal record, but nothing related to sex crimes.

Dence was arraigned in City Court and sent to the Fulton County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.

State police said the investigation into Dence’s case is ongoing and further charges could be filed.
