Betty Jean Fraker

Betty Jean Fraker, 86, of Gloversville, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014. She was born December 7, 1927, in Gloversville, daughter of the late George and Bertha Grant Johnson. Betty finished school after eighth grade and then continued to get her GED. Betty was an office manager for 18 years at Sara Fredericks in West Palm Beach, Florida. She also worked for years at Decca Records.

Betty was a member of the Bleecker St. Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to bake and was known to everyone as the “Pie Queen.” Betty loved to bowl, play bingo and was a member of the Pocahontas bingo hall, was a member of the senior center, enjoyed playing cards where she often would beat her son and also did word searches. She loved country music and dancing.

Survivors include her sons, Allen Calhoun, Patrick Calhoun (Carole), Raymond Calhoun Jr., and Thomas Calhoun (Keri), all of Gloversville; daughters, Karen Gordon (Harold) of Gloversville and Cynthia Calhoun of Johnstown; son-in-law, Richard LaPlante; stepson, George Fraker Jr. (Cheri) of Lantana, Florida; stepdaughters, Marge Nimey (Junior) of Utica, Pam Viola (Ralph) of New Jersey, Joanie McNiven of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Sharon Duncovich of Michigan; as well as 33 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her husband, George Fraker, whom she married July 3, 1972; daughter, Deborah LaPlante; and three sisters, Marion Ferrara, Hazel Podschelene and Mabel Hayes.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with Pastor Will Sharpe officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, August 24, 2014, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of NY at Pine West Plaza, Building 4, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.
