Ayres shelter hosts annual tournament

CANAJOHARIE – The Ayres Memorial Animal Shelters’ 12th Annual Golf Tournament was took place Aug. 9 at the Canajoharie Golf and Country Club. The four-player scramble also featured a putting competition open to all golfers in the tournament. The competition was sponsored by Richard Euler Realty.

The field of 30 players was narrowed to 10 qualifiers and was won by Deb Langevin.

Eight teams participated with the winning team from Access of Jeff Smith, Justin Smith, Brian Muehleck and Dave Bouck, with a score of 54.

Second went to the team of Bubba Bill, Mary Diefendorf, Don and Betsy Baker, with a score of 55. And third was taken by the Muligans, Linda Kolnick, Trish Graham, Deb Langevin and Darlene Downing scoring a 55.

Winners of the hole awards were: Teenie Brown (closest to the pin No. 9); Ken Ogden and Rosene (closest to the line No. 10); Ogden and Mary Diefendorf (longest drive No. 12); Tyler Folmsbee and Diefendorf (closest to the pin No. 15).

The tournament, which was sponsored by Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter in Sprakers, also had several corporate sponsors including: Dr. Mark Verra, Saratoga, NBT Bank, McFee Memorials , Fort Plain, Midvale Vet Clinic, Nelliston, Richard Euler Realty, Canajoharie, Fuccillo Autoplex, Nelliston, LJ Hand Farm Center, Glen, and The Tire Center, Canajoharie.

There were 56 businesses who sponsored tee signs, and seven businesses who donated raffle items or gift certificates. The water for the players was donated by Crystal Geyser, CG Roxane, Johnstown.

An unexpected guest arrived in time to see the putting competition playoff. Our State Senator candidate George Amedore paid a visit to the Tournament, and while there also visited with Matt Ossenfort, Montgomery County Executive, who was a competitor in the Tournament.
