Officials: Man tried to kill his wife

FONDA – A village man is facing an attempted murder charge after the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said he allegedly tried to suffocate his wife at a nursing home.

Edgar L. Morey, 73, of 390 Yellowville Road was charged with second-degree attempted murder.

Deputies said they received a complaint from a Montgomery County nursing home alleging that while Morey was visiting his wife, who was a patient, he was seen attempting to suffocate her with a pillow.

Montgomery County Sheriff Michael Amato said Morey was detained at the nursing home and arrested a short time later.

Morey was arraigned in Palatine town court and sent to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.

The victim was treated for injuries and remains stable, deputies said.

Amato said this morning that Morey remains in county jail. Amato declined to name the nursing home citing resident safety.
