Police: man fought, choked girlfriend
GLOVERSVILLE – A city man is in the Fulton County Jail after he allegedly choked his girlfriend during a fight on Saturday night, city police said.
Chauncey McCabe, 30, of 103 Park St., was charged with first-degree assault by city police on Saturday.
In a news release, officers said they were called to McCabe’s Park Street address for a report of domestic violence with an unconscious victim. Upon arriving at the address, officers were met by McCabe. McCabe said he had been involved in an altercation with his girlfriend, and said he had defended himself, the release said.
Officers said they found a 23-year-old woman lying on the floor unresponsive. There were obvious signs she had been choked, police said.
The woman was taken to Nathan Littauer Hospital, and later transfered to Albany Medical Center, where she is currently listed in critical condition.
City Police Chief Donald Van Deusen said the agency is in contact with the family about the victim’s condition.
Van Deusen said McCabe was arraigned in city court Sunday and was sent to the Fulton County Jail on $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond.
