Marian “Dede” Warner, 87, of Johnstown, N.Y., passed away peacefully at Mountain Valley Hospice on August 7, 2014, with her loving family by her side. She was an active member of St. John’s & St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, of Canajoharie. She was a lifelong area resident of the Mohawk Valley.
Marian was born September 9, 1926, to the late John A. Suits and Eliza M. Walrath in Palatine Bridge, N.Y. In 1946, she married her husband, John Warner. Marian, known to her friends as “Dede,” who loved being with children, was a very active volunteer in children’s schools and Johnstown Hospital. Dede enjoyed to travel, and visit the various national and state parks. She was a true “lover of nature.” Marian was also very proud of her family history and took pride in being related to Gen. Nicholas Herkimer, of Revolutionary fame.
Survivors include her loving husband of over 67 years, John Warner, of Johnstown; a son, Douglas Warner (Cynthia), of Alta Loma, California; grandchildren, Dustin and Johnathan Warner, also of California. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. She was predeceased not only by her parents, but also two brothers and three sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Ehle and Barnett Family Funeral Home, 15 N. William St., Johnstown, NY, 12095. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. at St. John’s and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 99 Church St., Canajoharie, NY 13317. An interment will immediately follow at Ames Cemetery.
