Several locals to compete in Williamsport

GLOVERSVILLE – Playing baseball in Williamsport, Pa., considered the mecca of Little League Baseball, is a dream for every Little Leaguer.

For Collin Hennessey that dream will soon become a reality.

Hennessey, who plays for the Catholic War Vets in the Majors division of the Gloversville Little League, has been selected to the District 12, under-12 Little League All-Star team that will play in the Little League World Series in Williamsport from Aug. 14-24.

Hennessey, who will enter the seventh grade in the Mayfield Central School District this fall, started his journey as a member of the Gloversville Little League all-star team.

“First I made it to [Gloversville] all-stars, then I made it to the district all-stars,” the 12-year-old catcher said. “Now I am going to Williamsport.”

Hennessey has been making the trip to the Scotia area for practice with the team that was selected from District 12, which consists of teams from the Gloversville, Broadalbin-Perth, Fonda-Fultonville, Duanesburg,?Schoharie, Rotterdam-Carman, Schenectady and Scotia-Glenville Little Leagues.

The process included playing four games in Scotia with players selected by the district administrators before narrowing the roster to 18 players.

The squad is slated to play at least four games in the tournament.

“I enjoy baseball and I’m just looking forward to playing,” Hennessey said.

Collin is the son of Nathan and Dawn Hennessey.

Rounding out the team will be Scotia-Glenville Little League’s Jason Carusone, Tyler Cannoe, Addison Schaub and Andrew LeMorta; Rotterdam-Carman Little League’s Eric Starr and Drew Coelho; Schoharie Little League’s Tim?Palmer; Duanesburg Little League’s Zack Gamache; and Schenectady Little League’s Bilal Braswell.
