College set to pay county $125K
FONDA – Fulton-Montgomery Community College will pay Montgomery County $125,000 to resolve an insurance mistake.
FMCC President Dustin Swanger was on hand during Tuesday’s county legislature meeting, when the legislature approved the payment from the college to the county.
Swanger said the county accidentally paid insurance for FMCC employees somewhere in the neighborhood of $117,000. The employees were coded as county employees by mistake.
The college was using the services of Montgomery County Health Insurance Trust, which was dissolved this year. The college had stopped using the service in 2011.
Swanger said the college rounded the amount up $125,000 to ensure the matter would be fully resolved.
The issue was discovered by an audit, and the payment was approved by the college at the June Board of Trustees meeting.
