DiamondDawgs edge Mohawks, 3-1

LITTLE FALLS – The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs snapped the Amsterdam Mohawks’ win streak at eight with their 3-1 victory Monday night at Veteran’s Park..

The DiamondDawgs got on the board first, as a big triple by catcher Eric Strano (Robbinsville, N.J./Rider) in the first inning scored leadoff hitter Joey Carcone (New Hartford/St. Rose). They would add another run on a fielder’s choice by Mike Triller (Rutland, Vt./Clemson), scoring Strano.

Mohawks pitcher Taylor Blatch (Stuart, Fl./Florida State) faced seven DiamondDawgs before getting out of a second-and-third jam to end the inning.

The DiamondDawgs struck again in the fifth inning, when Strano and Carcone hit back-to-back doubles, scoring Carcone.

Mohawk Valley starter Bryan Greig (New City/Mercy) allowed only one baserunner to get past first base before a line drive went off of his knee, and he was pulled for Enzo Esposito (Lawrenceville, N.J./Millersville).

Esposito continued the scoreless run for Mohawk Valley (21-15) before being pulled.

The Mohawks (29-9) got on the board in the top of the eighth inning when reliever Matt Pidich (Aberdeen, N.J./Pittsburgh) walked in a run with the bases loaded. That was as close as the Mohawks would get, as Pidich allowed one baserunner in the ninth to close the door.

With the win, the DiamondDawgs snap a three-game losing streak.
