Peddling without permit charged
GLOVERSVILLE – City police said two Kiwi Energy employees were charged for soliciting National Grid customers without a permit Saturday.
Eric E. Johnson, 28, and Jay R. Jones, 25, of 41 Jeanette St., Albany, were charged by the police department with a City Code violation of peddling without a permit.
Police said officers were dispatched to North Water Street on a report of two suspicious subjects posing as National Grid employees soliciting customers. Police located both subjects and interviewed them, police said.
Police discovered the two subjects worked for Kiwi Energy and were soliciting National Grid Customers to change their billing company to save money, police said.
According to the Gloversville City Code, anyone who peddles or solicits residents of Gloversville is required to have a permit issued by the City Clerk. Neither person had the required permit, police said.
Johnson and Jones were released on appearance tickets to be arraigned on a later date at City Court.
