Nature an outdoor classroom for young

Nature’s ever-present outdoor classroom enables children as young as 3 months to benefit from the gentle way nature’s world stimulates the senses.

Caring adults support this natural curiosity by encouraging the sense of wonder. The strong bonds that are formed can inspire language and the desire to communicate.

Preschoolers can be attracted to the beautiful shapes and textures found in leaves, flowers and bark and soon discover the differences and similarities, thus commencing them to recognize patterns. These skills will form the foundation for later development of reading and writing skills.

Nature’s ever-present outdoor classroom motivates elementary school children to engage in “real work” and thus practice their growing literary skills. The use of books as references for identifying insects, preparing signs for a garden or creating poetry inspired by the beauty of nature are all readily available, hands-on learning tools.
