Mohawks help East to all-star victory

ELMIRA – With 10 players on the East Division roster, the Amsterdam Mohawks were well represented Tuesday at the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League all-star game at Dunn Field.

The Mohawks played a key role in the East Division’s 3-1 win over the West Division.

Amsterdam players accounted for three of the East’s four hits, while the four Mohawks pitchers combined for 3 2/3 innings of hitless and scoreless work.

Amsterdam coach Keith Griffin, who posted his 200th career win Monday in Watertown, coached the East Division all-stars.

Amsterdam’s Josh Gardiner, Jonathan Pryor and JaVon Shelby each had hits for the East, while Marcus Carson, John Razzino and Blake Logan also played in the game.

Mohawks pitcher Ryan Clark started on the mound for the East, while E.J. Ashworth, Taylor Blatch and Thomas Hackimer also took to the mound for the East Division.

Glens Falls’ Kevin Cowan picked up the win on the mound and was named Most Valuable Player, while Elmira’s Zac Bellinger won the home run derby prior to the game.

Amsterdam’s Jake Salpietro competed in the home run derby.

Amsterdam is scheduled to host Glens Falls today at 6:35 p.m. at Shuttleworth Park.
