David A. Ambrosino Sr.

Mr. David A. Ambrosino Sr., 70, of Gloversville, went home to be with the Lord, July 10, 2014. Born March 28, 1944, in Gloversville, he was the son of the late Joseph and Marguerite Fagan Ambrosino. David was educated in Mayfield schools. David worked many years at area leather mills including Pan Am, Fownes, and Liberty, where he was a toggle and sorter. David also enjoyed working at John Subik Farms. Later in life he helped build Dave Ambrosino Timber Harvesting with his son. He loved logging and being outdoors.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Dave also loved horses and harness racing. He especially enjoyed visiting his son’s horses at the barn where he would often feed them. He was very proud to have built his own home, and his ability playing horse shoes. He belonged to the Summit Horse Shoe League and was a five-time champion. A hard worker, Dave was very devoted to his family, especially his dear grandchildren, who always called him “Poppy.” He overcame many hardships and obstacles in life, was much loved and will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Madeline Grant Ambrosino of Gloversville, whom he married December 4, 1965; and his children, Beth Anne Ambrosino and David A. Ambrosino Jr. (Jessica Achzet) of Gloversville. He is also survived by two sisters, Joyce Smith of Fonda and Susan Wilson (Denis) of Gloversville; and two brothers, Robert Ambrosino (Mary Jo) and Terry Ambrosino (Heidi), both of Gloversville. “Poppy” leaves his dear grandchildren, Hannah Ambrosino, Cassie Stephens, Izabella Ambrosino, Joshua Joseph Hodgson, Nathan Achzet, Johnathen Buyce and Dylan Sweet. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

David was predeceased by: a brother, Joseph Ambrosino and a sister, Peggy Quant.

Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Monday, July 14, 2014, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1-3 pm prior to the service. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
