Civic Band makes music for all ears
The Gloversville Civic Band will begin their summer concert series Wednesday. The series will run through Aug. 6. Concerts start at 7 p.m. sharp each Wednesday at picturesque Melchoir Park on Kingsboro Avenue. If the weather forecast is threatening, the band will play inside the Glove Performing Arts Center, 44 N. Main St.
The band is supported by donations from dozens of loyal patrons as well as advertisements from the following businesses: Salvione Insurance Agency, Mohawk Harvest Cooperative Market, McDonald’s, Price Chopper, Stewart’s Shops, Touch of Woodwinds, Richard China Music Lessons, Diane Perrella Income Tax Preparation, and The Mohawk Valley Group of Morgan Stanley. While the band does not receive direct financial support from the city of Gloversville, we are very grateful for the cooperation from Mayor Dayton King, the Common Council, Kevin Jones, Laura Nealon and the Department of Public Works. The concerts could not be held without their assistance. Many thanks also to Richard Samrov and the board of the Glove Performing Arts Center for partnering with the band and providing the Glove Theatre as our much needed rain site. The show will always go on.
The Civic Band is conducted by Tom Gerbino and consists of about 40 excellent, experienced musicians. In addition, promising local high school musicians, recommended by their teachers, are given the opportunity to perform with the band. They play all kinds of music: movie themes, Broadway show tunes, pop hits, patriotic marches, classical, and American standards. From Berlin to the Beatles, Gershwin to Groban, Mancini to Manilow, Sousa to Sting, this band plays something for everyone.
So come out to Melchoir Park the next five Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m., and enjoy some wonderful music in a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and meet your friends. It’s a great way to spend a summer evening.
The concerts are free. If anyone would like to make a donation, kindly make your check payable to Gloversville Citizens’ Band Inc. and mail to P.O. Box 984, Gloversville, NY 12078. All donations will be publicly acknowledged. Your support is greatly appreciated.
