Homers power Mohawks to win

AMSTERDAM – Jake Salpietro had a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to help the Amsterdam Mohawks post an 8-2 win over the Utica Brewers in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League game at Shuttleworth Park on Saturday.

The win was the 16th in 17 games for Amsterdam.

Blake Logan added a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh for the Mohawks, who improved to 18-7 overall.

Marcus Carson was 2-for-4 for Amsterdam, while John Razzino, JaVon Shelby and Thomas Kain also had hits.

Hayden Kelly was 2-for-4 with a triple for Utica (3-22 overall).

Connor Johnstone earned the win on the mound for the Mohawks, striking out five, walking two, allowing six hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings.
