Cooling stations open in county

FONDA – Organizations in Montgomery County have taken steps to help residents beat the heat over the next several days and volunteered their facilities to serve as cooling stations.

The cooling stations will provide air conditioning as well as drinking water, according to an email from Montgomery County Public Health.

Cooling stations will be located at:

The Horace Inman Center, 53 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. The station will be open Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Canajoharie Library, 2 Erie Blvd., Canajoharie, on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

The Glen Town Office Building, 7 Erie St., Fultonville, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The VFW Post 3275, 30 River St., Fort Plain, Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m.

The St. Johnsville Community Center and Village Hall, 16 Washington St., St. Johnsville, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.

At least a couple of the stations said they would be closed Friday for the Fourth of July holiday.
