Doin’s returns Friday in Northville

NORTHVILLE – The 2014 Northville Doin’s is set to begin Friday in the village.

The Doin’s will be held Friday and Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m. each day.

Food, crafts and musical entertainment will help fill the streets, along with scheduled events.

The Northville Parade Committee will present its annual Fourth of July parade at 1 p.m. Saturday. The parade will march north on Main Street starting at Washington Street. The parade will turn onto Reed Street and make a final turn on North Third Street.

The parade route will be closed off to all traffic at 11:30 a.m. Traffic can make its way through the village by using VanArnam Street and South Third Street; all traffic coming from Prospect Street and Middle Grove should use Ridge Road and Gould Hill, a news release said.

Lisa Wood, an organizer of the event, said she is excited for this weekend’s activities, and noted the weather could be perfect.

Her goal this year was to make an affordable event for families.

“There are a lot of things planned for the kids,” Wood said.

AccZip lines, a mechanical bull, jousting and bounce houses are scheduled for Friday from 4 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

There will be a Reptile Adventure show Friday at 4:30 p.m., a magic show at 6 p.m. and a momentum fire and light show at 8 p.m.

On Saturday, there will be music from Frank Manning, Under the Sun and Pat Decker and crew, before the fireworks at dusk.

All of the vendors will be local businesses, so familiar faces will be behind the stands, Wood said.

“It is just really a nice community event,” she said.
