Casino rally set for Tuesday

AMSTERDAM – The public is invited to join local business leaders in a rally to support the proposed casino in the city of Amsterdam and town of Florida.

According to Montgomery County Executive Matt Ossenfort’s office, the rally will take place Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Shuttleworth Park before the start of the Mohawks baseball game.

The rally is being held because the “Destination 27” project – in reference to the casino proposal – would be an economic boom for the region, according to an email from Ossenfort’s office.

The $250 million casino resort plan would include slot machines, gaming tables, a hotel, villas and golf courses in three phases of development. The project would create 453 temporary construction jobs and 850 permanent casino jobs, the developers say. The casino application is due to the New York State Gaming Commission License Board on Monday.
