Property auction gets county $129,000

JOHNSTOWN – A Fulton County tax-foreclosure property auction last week earned the county $128,946.

County Treasurer Terry Blodgett said of the 89 parcels, 11 remained unsold. The 89 parcels were mostly properties in which the owners hadn’t paid 2011 county taxes, although taxes hadn’t been paid on some since 2005.

County Budget Director Alice Kuntzsch said the money will go into the county’s annual budget.

Haroff Auction & Realty of Schroon Lake, Essex County, conducted the auction for the county June 18 at the Holiday Inn.

The parcels included lots, acreage, camps, homes and commercial properties.

Blodgett said the county, which usually conducts a real estate auction this time of the year, was pleased with the results.

Blodgett said the top-five selling properties in the auction were: $44,000, 6 Saratoga Blvd., Gloversville; $40,000, 217 Kingsboro Ave., Gloversville; $37,500, Route 30, town of Northampton; $37,000, County Highway 101, town of Johnstown; and $35,000, County Highway 106, Perth.

A report will be given at a county Finance Committee meeting July 3.

Blodgett said the county “took a loss” on Gloversville properties by more than $30,000. In the towns, the auction gained more than $158,000, he said.

The county’s last six-parcel online auction Nov. 22 earned the county $34,027 above tax delinquency. The county conducted an 80-parcel public property auction June 19, 2013, and earned $320,883 above the tax delinquency.

Before that, the county conducted an online auction in November 2012 that lost $87,025.
