Taco Bell to fill Johnstown space

JOHNSTOWN – The planned new Taco Bell restaurant to be built on the site of the vacant former Burger King building on Route 30A is on schedule for construction, city Fire Chief Bruce Heberer said Monday.

Heberer, the city’s code enforcement officer, on Monday reviewed asbestos abatement plans for the Burger King building. That 205 N. Comrie Ave. structure will be demolished to make way for the new 2,100-square-foot Taco Bell.

“You should be seeing things progress fairly quickly,” Heberer said.

Hospitality Syracuse Inc., the restaurant’s franchisee, told city officials in April it takes Taco Bell three to four months to build a new restaurant. The project is aiming for an early fall opening.
