Canajoharie gets housing grant

CANAJOHARIE – The state has awarded a $288,000 grant to the village of Canajoharie for the rehabilitation of 11 affordable homes.

The award from the Affordable Housing Corp., which is part of New York State Homes and Community Renewal, was among 37 announced this week. The awards, which total $14 million, will be used to repair and construct low- and moderate-income housing, a news release from Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office said.

The competitive awards are made to local municipalities and not-for-profit organizations to help revitalize communities, the news release said.

The awards help with the costs of home improvements, the rehabilitation of existing housing, and the new construction of homes for first-time homebuyers.
