Large black bear seen in city: police

GLOVERSVILLE – A large black bear made its way into the city Monday night, authorities said this morning.

Police Chief Donald VanDeusen said his department responded to the call around 10 p.m. which reported the bear made its way into the area of East Boulevard.

“They located a large black bear near the intersection of East Boulevard and North Boulevard,” the chief said. “The bear crossed East Boulevard and headed into the woods on the east side of East Boulevard.”

VanDeusen said the bear made its way out of the city on its own.

Bear sightings occasionally happen throughout the city, he said.

“From time to time they wander into the city,” VanDeusen said. “It’s not unusual for either bear or deer to wander into the city, and hopefully find their way out.”
