Citizens Band set for summer season

JOHNSTOWN – The Board of Directors of the Johnstown Citizens Band recently held its organizational meeting in preparation for the 106th summer concert season.

The Board of Directors for 2014 consists of Douglas Dougherty, president; Noel Wing, vice president; Kathy Dougherty, secretary; and Mike Calvello, treasurer, a news release said.

At-large members are Tamara Healy and Andy LaCoppola.

Douglas Dougherty will conduct the band.

The band’s concert season, which will occur over six successive Friday evenings, will begin July 11 and end Aug. 15. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at the Charles Jenner Memorial Band Shell in the downtown park.

Due to the Johnstown Block Party on Aug. 1, that evening’s concert will be moved to the front entrance of Johnstown High School, weather permitting.

Should inclement weather occur on the night of any concert except Aug. 1, the concert will be moved to the Johnstown Episcopal Church, which is next door to the band shell.

The band is sponsored in part by the city of Johnstown and donations from area businesses and merchants.

Private donations are also welcome and should be sent to The Johnstown Citizens Band, in care of Douglas Dougherty, president, 1 Abel Drive, Johnstown, NY 12095.
