District to borrow for buses

JOHNSTOWN – The Greater Johnstown School District Board of Education authorized borrowing more than $350,000 for the purchase of three school buses Thursday.

“This is the bond so we can continue our transportation efforts for the students of the Greater Johnstown School District,” said board President Paul VanDenburgh.

The board authorized the issuance of bonds for up to $350,165 for the buses. The state will reimburse the district for 90 percent of that cost. District voters on May 20 approved the purchases in a public referendum in a 316-109 vote. The district will buy three 66-passenger school buses for the 2014-15 school year.
