Former supervisor gets county position

JOHNSTOWN – Former Fulton County Board of Supervisors Chairman James Callery was appointed by the board Monday as the county’s new director of weights and measures, replacing Neil Daley.

Callery, a former Johnstown 4th Ward supervisor and unsuccessful county treasurer candidate, will begin the full-time $44,000-per-year post July 1.

Daley retired March 31 after 17 years of county service. The county Weights and Measures Department is responsible for – under state regulations – the precise measures of consumer items such as gasoline at pumps and weight of goods on grocery store shelves.

A news release issued Tuesday by the county said that Callery has worked as a lab technician at Fage USA at the Johnstown Industrial Park since 2011. He also previously worked as a cook at the former Tryon Secure Detention Facility in Perth, and he owned Partners Pub and Restaurant in Johnstown.
