Woman charged with robbery

FORT JOHNSON – A woman was arrested by state police Monday after an incident in Johnstown where she knocked another woman to the ground and stole her pocket book in the Price Chopper parking lot, police said.

Cara R. Dearaujo, 30, of 6 Chestnut St., apartment 2, Amsterdam, was charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree assault, grand larceny, all felonies, and petit larceny.

Police said Dearaujo was hiding between two parked cars. When the victim walked past her, Dearaujo knocked her to the ground and stole her pocket book, police said.

Sgt. Christopher Stevens said this morning the incident occurred at the Johnstown Price Chopper. The grand larceny charge stemmed from the contents of the victim’s purse.

Authorities said Dearaujo fled the scene in her own vehicle. She was seen driving along Route 5 by state police.

Police said the incident occurred at 2:37 p.m. on Monday and she was arrested at 3 p.m.

The victim sustained minor injuries to her head, resulting in her being treated and released by medical personnel on scene, police said.

Dearaujo was transported to the Johnstown Police Department. She was processed, arraigned and bail was set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
