Fonda plans After the 4th event
FONDA – Village officials are creating a new celebration to take place after the Fourth of July.
The After the Fourth Family Celebration will be held July 11 and 12 at the village recreation park, officials said.
Village officials said the event will feature a 6 p.m. parade July 11, and fireworks at around 9 or 9:30 p.m. that night.
On July 12, the event will feature a variety of family-friendly activities. Bands, food and vendors are all planned parts of the event.
The Village Board unanimously approved a $5,500 line item at Monday’s meeting to help pay for the event, but Mayor Bill Peeler said he hopes not to have to use any village money.
“Really, what we’re trying to do is not go into the village’s pockets whatsoever,” he said.
Peeler said the village will send out donation forms to area businesses to try and raise money for the event.
Companies who donate will likely have their names added to a banner to be displayed in the village stating they donated money to the event, officials said.
Peeler said the village also is looking for vendors for the event.
Peeler said he envisions the celebration as a family-friendly event and hopes to bring families into the community.
“I think it’s something positive for the community,” Peeler said.
Peeler said if the event is a success, planning for the event next year would begin immediately.
Peeler said the size of the fireworks show will depend on the number of monetary donations received. Peeler said he is hoping to get enough donations to make the fireworks show large enough to draw people from across the area in future years.
Money made from a $4-per-car parking fee will go toward improvements for the village’s park and waterfront, officials said.
