Howard T. Gallup

Howard T. Gallup, age 75, of Gloversville, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home with his loving family at his side. He was born in Wells New York on April 16, 1939 to the late David W. and Ruth Buyce Gallup.

Howard attended The Berkshire Common and Broadalbin schools and at the age of 18, enlisted in the United States Army.

Upon returning home, he worked for numerous local tanneries. In later years, he did maintenance work for the local YMCA and delivered mail in the Fulton County Office Buildings before retiring.

One of our Father’s greatest joys was playing pool and he won many APA Tournaments over the years. He took pleasure in reading mystery novels and was a fan of the New York Giants. He enjoyed sharing his passion for country music and he looked forward to dancing every Sunday at the Broadalbin Hotel with family and friends. He loved camping, swimming and fishing and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to others, especially his children.

Howard is survived by his son, Stephen R. Gallup (Tammy) of Hopkinsville KY., Daughters, Deborah A. Smith (Tom) and Robin L. Siarkowski (Tony) of Gloversville and their two younger brothers, Vincent and Jeremy Scott. Grandchildren Jessica Smith and fianc Ron Ambrosino of Caroga Lake, Magan and Kayla Gallup of Hopkinsville, Ky., Jordan and A. Jacob Siarkowski of Gloversville N. Y. and Chad Smith (Katrina) of Rockwood N. Y. Three Great grandchildren, Arron and Blayke Sowle and Amelia Jean Ambrosino of Caroga Lake. Three brothers, Harold Gallup (Flora) of Broadalbin N. Y., Sherrill Gallup of Mayfield N. Y. and Ralph Gallup of Johnstown N. Y. Two sisters, Lucille Colburn of Franklyn, N.Y. and Florence Hopkins of Ocean Springs, Miss. Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. His close feline friend, Buddy, also survives him.

In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his siblings, Evelyn Edwards, Marian Hill, Ruth Orr, Marjery Brockhum, Donald Gallup, Joseph Gallup, Norman Gallup, George Gallup, Gordon Gallup, and Roscoe Gallup.

In keeping with Howard’s wishes, a graveside military ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Ferndale Cemetery in Johnstown, N. Y. with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions in Howard’s memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, N. Y. and to The National Parkinson Foundation.

The family deeply appreciates the support and care of the staff at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, the services provided by Mountain Valley Hospice, and the assistance and comfort of Dr. Reverend R. W.
