New CASA volunteers sworn in after training

FONDA – After a formal training period of 30 hours, plus one or two court visits, five new Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers were sworn in recently at Montgomery County Family Court by Family Court Judge Philip Cortese.

Cortese has been a longtime supporter of the CASA program, a news release said.

CASA is a program of Centro Civico of Amsterdam. The program screens, trains and supervises volunteers who will advocate in court for Fulton and Montgomery counties’ abused and neglected children, according to the news release.

The Family Court judge assigns a CASA volunteer to specific cases.

Since CASA volunteers take on only one case at a time, they are able to focus their time and energy to monitor each child’s situation, according to the news release.

The goal for CASA is for each child to have a safe and permanent home as quickly as possible, the news release said.

The program is looking for volunteers.
