Mary F. Hutchison Brooker

Mary F. Hutchison Brooker, 95, of Spring Street, Broadalbin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2014. Mary was born in the town of Florida, New York on December 10, 1918, she was the daughter of the late James and Satie Ensel Hutchison.

Mary attended Amsterdam schools. At 18 she was employed at Mohasco in Amsterdam and retired in 1952. After being a stay-at-home mom, she then worked at Mary & Belles Flower shop for over twelve years. During that time she was the store manager of the Flower Pot in the Johnstown Mall until she retired.

She was married to Maurice I. Brooker on March 29, 1947, who passed away on October 11, 1976. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Katherine Boswell; a brother, Jimmy Hutchison; her stepchildren, Shirley Brooker Skinner and Sheldon Brooker.

She is survived by her loving son, Gary and daughter-in-law Christine and their two children who she was so proud of, her grandchildren, Gail Lee Brooker (Tom) and Gregory Christopher Brooker (Nicole). She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Leila Lajeunesse of Connecticut; several special nieces, nephews and stepfamily members, all of whom she loved dearly.

Mary enjoyed life to the fullest. She was a dedicated fan of the New York Yankees and never missed a ballgame. She would stay up until the wee hours of the morning until the ballgame was over. One of Mary’s special memories was going to the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame with her family.

In better years, if she wasn’t baking homemade bread or cooking for a crowd, you would find her in her vegetable garden or working on one of her many handmade quilts. She also enjoyed going to ceramic classes with friends and family, canning, crafts and attending the United Methodist Church of Broadalbin regularly of which she was a member.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Broadalbin, 65 N. Main Street, Broadalbin, NY. Burial will follow in Broadalbin Union Rural Cemetery in Broadalbin. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY.
