Woman, 18, jumps car onto train tracks

AMSTERDAM-An 18-year-old driver was charged with speeding and failing to keep right after an automobile accident sent her onto CSX train tracks May 25.

According to Montgomery County Undersheriff Peter Vrooman, Deedra Vargos received minor injuries after flipping her car onto CSX train tracks around 6:41 p.m. May 25.

Vrooman said Vargos was headed east on Route 5, going 90 mph in a 55-mph zone. Vargos drove off the southern side of the road, went airborne and rolled onto the tracks.

Emergency personnel and CSX officials were dispatched. Vargos reported head and neck pain, and was taken to St. Mary’s for treatment.

Vrooman said there was no evidence of texting while driving or that Vargos was intoxicated. CSX inspectors held train service until the tracks were clear and deemed safe for travel.
