Wolves to play for title

GLENS FALLS – Brad Smith pitched a four-hitter to lead Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville to a 9-2 win over Loudonville Christian in the semifinals of the Section II Class D Tournament at East Field on Saturday.

Dylan Klock had three singles and a double for third-seeded Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville (13-6 overall), while Payten Johnson and Nick D’Antonino each added a single and a double.

Smith and Joe D’Antonino each added two singles for the Wolves.

Matt Paulsen added two singles for the second-seeded Eagles.

Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville advances to the Class D championship game Thursday at Joe Bruno Stadium in Troy at 4 p.m.

The Wolves will face top-seeded Fort Ann, which posted a 9-2 win over fourth-seeded Mekeel Christian Academy in Saturday’s semifinals.

Section II Class A Semifinals

Averill Park 8, Amsterdam 7

ALBANY – Brent Jones had a three-run double to lead Averill Park to a win over Amsterdam in the semifinals of the Section II Class A Tournament at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

Ben Reinisch had a two-run double in the fourth inning for the eighth-seeded Warriors, while James Apple had an RBI single.

Anthony Noce had a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh for the sixth-seeded Rams.

Julian Gallup had an RBI sacrifice fly for Amsterdam, while Bryan Stanavich and Andrew Rouse each drew bases-loaded walks to plate runs.

Eric Robertshaw also had an RBI for the Rams, who finished their season with a 13-9 overall record.

Averill Park advances to Friday’s Class A championship game. The Warriors will face seventh-seeded Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake at Joe Bruno Stadium in Troy. Burnt Hills topped third-seeded Lansingburgh, 9-1, in Saturday’s other semifinal contest.

Section VII Class D Quarterfinals

Lake Placid 11, Wells 2

WELLS – Lake Placid scored seven runs in the second inning on its way to a win over third-seeded Wells in the Section VII Class D quarterfinals.

Ryan Damp earned the win on the mound for the sixth-seeded Bombers, striking out 10 in 5 2/3 innings. Damp also had three hits, including a two-run home run in the third inning.

Shane McNierney, Noah Mohr, Connor Preston and Chris Williams each had two hits apiece for Lake Placid, which had 15 total hits.

The Blue Bombers finished with seven extra-base hits – Damp’s home run, a triple by Preston and doubles by McNierney, Damp, Mohr, Williams and Tucker Angelopoulos.

Wells managed just two hits off Damp and McNierney, who took over in the sixth inning.

Lake Placid advances to face second-seeded Chazy in Tuesday’s semifinals. Chazy edged seventh-seeded Westport, 5-4, in the quarterfinals.

Wells finished its season with a 6-3 overall record.

Section III Class C-2 Quarterfinals

Bishop Grimes 5, Dolgeville 4

EAST SYRACUSE – Tom Steinberg had two hits to lead second-seeded Bishop Grimes to a win over seventh-seeded Dolgeville in the quarterfinals of the Section III Class C-2 Tournament.

Chris Schad plated the game-winning run with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh for the Cobras.

Schad also earned the win on the mound, allowing five hits, striking out seven and walking one.

Joe Arrigo had a double for Bishop Grimes, while Chris Hendrick had an RBI single. Austin DeRienzo added an RBI sacrifice fly for the Cobras.

Nick Darling had two hits and an RBI for Dolgeville, while Reid Johnson, Alex Johnson and Jacob Farquhar each had hits.

Bishop Grimes will face sixth-seeded Weedsport in the semifinals at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Weedsport blanked third-seeded Westmoreland, 7-0, in Saturday’s quarterfinal contest.

Dolgeville finished its season with a 7-10 overall record.
