H.S. Softball Roundup: Mayfield, Canajoharie, Amsterdam drop first-round games

WATERFORD – Alex Lefebvre had a three-run home run and a double to power Waterford to a 6-3 win over Mayfield in the first round of the Class C Tournament on Wednesday.

Lefebvre finished the game 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs for the fourth-seeded Fordians.

Jess Ramirez added two singles and two RBIs for Waterford.

Lyndsey Barber had three singles, a run scored and an RBI for 13th-seeded Mayfield, while Jordan Marshall had a triple and a run scored.

Kristina Auty had a single and a double for the Lady Panthers, while Mackenzie Biggers had a double and an RBI.

Sydney Benton had two singles for Mayfield, Julie Hampton had a single and Caitlin Tomlinson added an RBI.

Waterford will host fifth-seeded Lake George in Friday’s quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m. The Warriors posted a 5-2 win over 12th-seeded Galway on Wednesday.

Mayfield finished its season with a 7-11 overall record.

Class C First Round

Lake George 5, Galway 2

LAKE GEORGE – Brittany Motta had a single and a triple to lead Lake George to a win over Galway in the first round of the Class C Tournament.

Catie Cleveland earned the win in the circle for the fifth-seeded Warriors (9-5 overall), striking out four, walking none and allowing seven hits.

Cleveland also added two singles and a double for Lake George, which plays at fourth-seeded Waterford in Friday’s quarterfinals. Waterford posted a 6-3 win over 13th-seeded Mayfield in its first-round contest.

Emily Zawisa had two doubles and a single for 12th-seeded Galway, which finished its season with a 9-9 overall record.

Class A First Round

Glens Falls 3, Amsterdam 0

QUEENSBURY – Rachael Lashway pitched a three-hitter to lead Glens Falls to a win over Amsterdam in the opening round of the Class A Tournament.

Lashway struck out 11 batters to help the seventh-seeded Indians to their first sectional win since 2008.

Glens Falls scored all three of its runs in the third inning.

Ali Battease hit a double and single and drove in two runs for Glens Falls (10-8 overall), while Ruby Caprood added an RBI single. Kaili Jackson doubled for the Indians, while Jordan Pennock added a triple.

Glens Falls advances to face second-seeded Averill Park in Friday’s quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m.

Allie Krohn had a double for 10th-seeded Amsterdam, which finished its season with a 9-8 overall record.

Mount Markham 17, Dolgeville 16

DOLGEVILLE – In a game that featured 24 hits, Mount Markham outlasted Dolgeville, 17-16.

Dolgeville led 13-11 after four innings before the Mustangs outscored the Blue Devils 6-3 over the final three innings to earn the victory.
