Sir Bills host Cohoes today in Class BB preliminary game

Six area teams will take part in this year’s Section II Baseball Tournament, which begins today.

Amsterdam, Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville, Fort Plain, Fonda-Fultonville, Broadalbin-Perth and Johnstown will all take part in this year’s tourney.

Johnstown (11-7 overall) and Broadalbin-Perth (6-13 overall) will both be in action today in the first round of the Class BB tournament.

The Sir Bills, who reached the Class B title game last year, earned the sixth seed and will host 11th-seeded Cohoes (8-11 overall) today at 4 p.m. The winner will travel to third-seeded Hudson on Thursday for a 4 p.m. quarterfinal contest.

Broadalbin-Perth was seeded 10th and will travel to seventh-seeded Catskill (10-7 overall) today for a 4 p.m. first-round contest. The winner will travel to second-seeded Saratoga Central Catholic (16-3 overall) for a 4 p.m. quarterfinal contest Thursday.

Defending Class B champion Schalmont earned the No. 1 seed in Class BB.

Fonda-Fultonville (10-8 overall) was seeded fifth in Class B. The Braves will travel to fourth-seeded Stillwater on Thursday for a 4 p.m. quarterfinal contest.

The winner will face either No. 1 Corinth or No. 8 Tamarac in Saturday’s semifinals at Veterans Park in Saratoga Springs at 1 or 4 p.m.

Fort Plain (14-2 overall) reached the Class C title game last season before losing to Voorheesville. The Hilltoppers earned the third seed for this year’s tournament.

Fort Plain will host either No. 11 Hadley-Luzerne or No. 6 Maple Hill in Thursday’s quarterfinals at 4 p.m.

Rensselaer earned the top seed in Class C, while Whitehall was seeded second.

In Class A, Amsterdam (12-8 overall) was seeded fifth and will travel to fourth-seeded Scotia-Glenville on Thursday for a 4 p.m. game. The Rams posted a 7-3 win over the Tartans in the first round of the Bouck Tournament at Schalmont on April 26.

The winner will face either No. 1 Queensbury or No. 8 Averill Park in the semifinals Saturday at the College of Saint Rose at 1 or 4 p.m.

Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville (12-7 overall) was seeded third in Class D. The Wolves will host sixth-seeded Germantown on Thursday at 4 p.m. The winner will face either No. 2 Loudonville Christian or No. 2 Warrensburg in Saturday’s semifinals at East Field in Glens Falls at 1 p.m.

Fort Ann was seeded first in Class D.

Shenendehowa (19-1 overall) was seeded first in Class AA.

Gloversville, Canajoharie and Mayfield opted not to take part in this year’s tournament. Gloversville finished the season 3-15 overall, Mayfield went 3-15 and Canajoharie was 7-9.
