Classes create planetarium
BROADALBIN – Students in Christine Plunkett’s Exploring Student Potential classes at Broadalbin-Perth Central School’s Learning Community are putting on a display of their own version of the night sky in a homemade planetarium.
After studying the constellations and the stories behind them, the students were asked to create their own, a news release said. The students then transferred their designs to the plastic planetarium by poking small holes through the top side of the inflatable structure.
Using plastic roofing material, duct tape and a box fan, Plunkett created the planetarium, an idea she got from a NASA workshop she attended.
The students will have an opportunity to share their stories and constellation designs with their parents from 6 to 7 p.m. in the TLC gym over four nights – May 27, 28 and 29 for second-graders and June 2 for the first-graders.
