H.S. Baseball Roundup: Spa Catholic wins pair over Canajoharie

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Jake Moline picked up two victories for Saratoga Central Catholic against Canajoharie.

Moline earned the first win in relief and his second as a starter to help the Saints clinch the Western Athletic Conference North Division championship.

In the first game, Saratoga Catholic posted a 6-5 win over Canajoharie in nine innings in the completion of a game that was suspended earlier this season.

Tim Brizzell singled and scored on a single by Michael Naughton to lift the Saints to the win.

In the second game, Moline struck out nine and allowed two hits over five innings for the Saints in a 12-1 win.

Kyle Bailey had a three-run triple and a double for Saratoga Catholic (15-2 overall, 14-1 WAC), while Naughton had two doubles. Zac Cronk added three hits for the Saints.

Canajoharie slipped to 7-9 overall and 6-9 in Western Athletic Conference play with the losses.

GALWAY – Galway scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally from a 5-2 deficit to post a win over Fort Plain in a WAC North Division contest.

Sam Uline had three hits for Galway (9-5 WAC), while Ben Manna and Zach Hartman each had two hits.

Tyler Goergen struck out seven and allowed five hits to earn the complete-game win for the Golden Eagles.

Drew Fureno and Kiernan Briggs each had two hits for the Hilltoppers, who slipped to 13-2 overall and 12-2 in WAC play.

MAYFIELD – Nate Trumble had a double and two singles to lead Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville to a WAC win over Mayfield.

Trumble also earned the win on the mound, allowing six hits in seven innings of work.

Brad Smith had three singles for Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville (10-6 overall, 9-5 WAC), while John Vicciarelli, Nick D’Antonio and Devan Battisti each had two singles for the Wolves.

Alex Colby had a triple and a single for Mayfield (3-14 overall, 3-12 WAC), while Jordan VanNostrand had a double. Dylan Lanza, Matt Messina and Alex Charbonneau had singles for the Panthers.

Bernacet also went 4-for-4 with a double for the Patriots, while Nick Schmid had a double and a single. Zach Schellenger added a triple for Schenectady.

Andrew Rouse had both hits for Amsterdam (10-6 overall, 8-6 Big 10).
