Sheila K. Wheeler
Mrs. Sheila K. Wheeler, 71, of Broadalbin, NY, passed away peacefully at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam on May 11, 2014. Her loving family was by her side. Born in Amsterdam, NY on November 15, 1942, she is the daughter of the late Kenneth M. and Eleanor Smullen Kenna.
Sheila was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School, class of 1961. She then attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College. She was employed by John Hancock as an underwriter for life and health insurance. Shelia then worked for Montgomery Transitional Services from 1984-2007, retiring as program director. She also worked for some time as a real estate broker. Shelia enjoyed reading, sailing and going for rides on the motorcycle. Sheila also enjoyed volunteering for her community acting in several different capacities including: member of the board for the Montgomery County Office for the Aging, volunteering for children in need and St. Mary’s Hospital as well as Touch volunteers. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her loving family includes: husband, James V. Wheeler, whom she wed on January 15, 1988; her children, Rick Morey and his wife Ronda of Amsterdam, Mark Morey and his wife Cathy of Florida, Deanna Morey Palczak and her husband Stuart of Amsterdam, Mary Elizabeth Browder of Ohio, Charles Wheeler and his wife Kate of New Hampshire and Barbara Wheeler of Amsterdam. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Rick Jr., Robbie, Michelle, Angelina, Aubrey, Bella, Tiffany, McKenna, Jacob, Sierra, Jordan and Gabriel; and one great-granddaughter, Aurora.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, May 16, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
