Cooling Assistance Program available to income-qualified applicants

FONDA – The Fulmont Community Action Agency announced the New York State Cooling Assistance Program is available to help people with health issues affected by extreme heat, a news release said.

The cooling assistance program provides air conditioners to income- qualified applicants at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis, the news release said.

Those who think they qualify for this program should contact the local Department of Social Services office as soon as possible to apply, as the funds for this program can be depleted quickly, the news release said.

Fulmont is a vendor for the air-conditioning program for Fulton and Montgomery counties and can be requested to install an air-conditioning unit.

Most units are installed by Fulmont Energy Service’s own technicians. Fulmont also can discuss possible further weatherization work to be done at a person’s residence through New York State Housing & Community Renewal program and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s Empower New York program. Applications can be given at the time of the cooling appliance installation, the news release said.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has made $3 million in cooling assistance funds available to eligible low-income New York state residents with documented medical conditions that are exacerbated by extreme heat, the news release said.
