Raiders qualify for regionals, end 18-year playoff drought

JOHNSTOWN – The Fulton-Montgomery Community College baseball team is headed for the Region 3 playoff for the first time in 18 years.

Thursday, the Raiders (13-9 Region 3) split a doubleheader with Herkimer County Community College, winning the opening game 6-1 before falling 13-6 in the night cap.

FMCC enters the tournament as the third seed in the East and will travel to place Niagara County Community College, the No. 2 seed in the West, for a best-of-three series.

The teams will play two games on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and, if necessary, the deciding game will be played Sunday.

The winner advances to the Regional Final Four Tournament at Little Falls on May 17 and 18.
