Man trapped in car charged with DWI
FLORIDA – An Esperance man was arrested for driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana after his vehicle was found on its side in a ditch with him trapped inside, authorities said.
Jack Sawyer, 65, of Esperance, was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a chemical test and unlawful possesion of marijuana.
Authorities said Fonda troopers on May 2 at 2:24 p.m. responded to the one-car accident on Peck Road.
When troopers arrived, they found the vehicle on its side in the ditch and found Sawyer inside, but unable to get out.
He was not injured from the accident, and was removed from the vehicle and administered a field sobriety test, which authorities said he failed.
Sawyer was also found to be in possession of marijuana and refused to submit to a breath test, which brought additional charges.
He was issued appearance tickets for Town of Florida Court at a later date.
