Investigate allegations

Veterans Administration officials have testified in Congress that there is no basis for allegations of corruption and mismanagement that may have killed as many as 40 veterans at a VA hospital in Phoenix.

Not good enough, lawmakers should respond.

Reports of the problem surfaced after a doctor, retired after working at the hospital for more than 20 years, complained. No one has suggested he had any reason to make up the story.

Obviously, as Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., stressed, the matter should not be decided in the news media. But Sanders added Congress will conduct a full, comprehensive probe of the report.

Good. Again, the allegations are far too serious to be dropped solely on the word of VA officials.
