Nethaway, Hoagboon playing for UAlbany
NEWARK, N.J. – In Sunday’s doubleheader at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium, the University at Albany baseball team split a doubleheader with the NJIT Highlanders. The Great Danes fell, 5-4, in the first game, but bounced back to win the series finale, 9-5.
Senior Josh Nethaway,a Fonda-Fultonville graduate, had another outstanding day at the plate for Albany, hitting a home run, while going 2-for-3 with four RBIs in the first game. In the nightcap, Nethaway went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while lining his 52nd career double, which breaks UAlbany’s program record. Nethaway is also just one hit away from becoming UAlbany’s seventh member of the 200-hits club. Nethaway totaled 10 RBIs and three home runs in the four-game series with NJIT.
Finishing with eight hits as a team in Sunday’s first game, senior D.J. Hoagboon, a Mayfield graduate, also batted well for the Great Danes, going 3-for-4 with a run scored.
In the second game, Hoagboon had a solo home run for Albany.
UAlbany is scheduled to play at St. John’s today at 6 p.m. The game will air live on ESPN3.
