Village mayor opts to resign

HAGAMAN-Village Mayor Michael Shover resigned Thursday, citing personal health reasons.

Village Clerk Virginia Salamack said today Shover injured his leg in November and said he felt he should think about his health. Shover could not be reached for comment this morning.

Salamack said Shover wanted the village to provide health insurance for him, but the board did not allow it in the 2014-15 budget.

Salamack said the village may hold a special meeting to determine how to fill the position until the next election. The next scheduled meeting is May 20.

Shover was elected in 2013. A new mayor will be elected in 2015 to serve the remaining two years.
