Fort Plain, Hoosick Falls to play for title
FORT PLAIN – The Fort Plain and Hoosick Falls baseball teams advanced to the championship game of the Bo Baker Tournament on Saturday.
Fort Plain recorded an 8-0 win over Mayfield in its first-round contest, while Hoosick Falls notched a 17-3 win over Mekeel Christian Academy.
In its game, Fort Plain scored twice in the first inning and four times in the second inning on its way to the win.
Jesse Heroth earned his sixth win of the season on the mound for Fort Plain (8-0 overall, 7-0 WAC), combining on a one-hitter with Alex Bleichner and McKay Nare.
Heroth also had a single and two RBIs at the plate for the Hilltoppers, while Drew Fureno, Aiden VanLoan and Kiernan Briggs each had RBI singles.
Alex Colby singled for Mayfield’s lone hit.
Hoosick Falls had little trouble in its first-round game with Mekeel Christian, scoring all 14 runs in the first four innings.
Garrett Wright had three singles and four RBIs for the Panthers (5-5 overall), while Thomas Peabody and Wyatt Whitman each had two singles.
Danny Gregory had two singles and a double for Mekeel Christian, while Scott Voelker had two singles.
In the consolation game, Mekeel Christian posted a 13-7 win over Mayfield.
Voelker had two doubles for the Lions, while Tyler Guido added a double.
Bobby Gates had a double for Mayfield (3-8 overall, 3-7 WAC), while Colden Glover, Matt Messina, Alex Charbonneau and Dylan Lanza each had singles.
The championship game was rescheduled for today at 4:30 p.m.
