Great Strides walk slated for today
FONDA – A walk to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will take place starting at Fonda-Fultonville Central School today at noon, with check-in at 11 a.m., a news release said.
The event is part of Great Strides, a national walk held in hundreds of cities across the country, a news release said. The walks generate funds to fight cystic fibrosis, an inherited fatal disease, according to the release.
“Great Strides is crucial to our lifesaving efforts, and every walker who joins us makes a difference for people with cystic fibrosis,” said Tonya Egelston, volunteer chair for the CF Foundation’s northeastern New York chapter, in the release. “We are making tremendous progress in fighting this devastating disease, and we are grateful for our volunteers and sponsors, who are a vital part of this effort.”
The 2014 national goal of Great Strides is to raise $43 million nationwide for CF research, education and care, the release said.
Live music at the walk will be provided by local singers Brenda Empie and Ricky Martuscello. The event also will include children’s activities, refreshments, a pork roast lunch and raffles.
