H.S. Softball Roundup: Canjo tops OESJ, 11-8

CANAJOHARIE – Canajoharie scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to break open a tight game in an 11-8 win over Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville in a Western Athletic Conference softball game Friday.

Bri Slater was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored for Canajoharie (8-4 overall, 7-3 WAC), while Brittany Pitonza was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Katie Towse and Lauren Balfe each went 3-for-4 with a double for the Lady Cougars. Towse finished with four RBIs and three runs scored, while Balfe had two RBIs and a run scored.

Madyson Casler had two hits for Canajoharie.

Caitlyn Honey had a triple and a double for Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville (9-3 overall, 8-2 WAC), while Kyleigh Hayner was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Marissa Nellis was 2-for-4 with a double, while Sam LaCoppola also had a double for the Lady Wolves. Sam Mumford had a single and two RBIs for OESJ.

DUANESBURG – Rachel Gamache had a single, double and three RBIs to power Duanesburg to a WAC win over Galway.

Lia Schettine had two singles and an RBI for the Eagles, who improved to 11-2 overall and 9-0 in WAC play.

Emily Zawisa had a triple and a single for Galway (4-5 WAC).

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Sydney Stanley finished with two singles, two doubles and four RBIs to lead Schoharie to a win over Saratoga Catholic at Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Gabbi Danthine had two singles and a triple for Schoharie (7-2 WAC).

Jocelyn Maher was 4-for-5 with two RBIs for Saratoga Catholic (4-5 overall, 4-4 WAC).

TROY – Amsterdam scored four times in the sixth inning to post a win over Catholic Central.

Ashley Przybylowicz had a double in the sixth for Amsterdam, while Amber Iannotti, Tessa Filiberto, Allie Krohn and Michela Puglisi each had sixth-inning singles.

The Rams had five of their seven hits in the sixth innings

Morgin Russell and Stephanie DeLorenzo also had hits for Amsterdam (5-4 overall, 2-3 Big 10).

FONDA – Hailey Irvis pitched a two-hitter to lead Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk to a win over Fonda-Fultonville.

Irvis struck out nine and walked four to earn the complete-game win. Irvis also had three singles for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk.

Ashley House had a grand slam for the Indians, while Day Stevens had two doubles and a single.
